New Daily 4 X 4

Daily 4X4

The Daily 4x4 is a purpose-built off road, light commercial truck which features front, centre and rear differential locks and ultra-low gearing straight from the factory - it is one of the most capable light duty trucks available in New Zealand.

The vehicle is available with GVMs of up to 5500 kg (can be driven on a car licence), all models feature a braked towing capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes and are available as either a single cab or dual cab chassis. Muddy tracks, rough ground, steep slopes and slippery roads are no obstacle for the Daily 4x4, which is designed to do the toughest jobs under the harshest conditions.

The Daily 4x4 is ideal for use in applications such as:

  • off road support vehicles
  • emergency services
  • recreational vehicles
  • mining or forestry services
Daily 4x4 Range

The Daily 4x4 offers the best combination of payload and off-road performance to conquer the toughest conditions. Built on a solid steel truck chassis, it features the performance of a permanent all wheel drive with three available differential locks (front, rear, and central), 24 forward and 4 reverse gear ratios. There is the option of selecting the first synchronised reduction (half speed) with the vehicle in motion. The Daily 4x4 is fitted with parabolic suspension with a live front axle to cushion the shocks of road surfaces. Combined with excellent ground clearance, these features allow the Daily 4x4 to easily handle the toughest terrain.

Thanks to its design, the Daily 4x4 guarantees the performance of a true off-road vehicle with a:

  • 51° departure angle
  • 27° approach angle
  • 36° departure angle, with rear bar raised
  • fording depth up to 700mm

It is available with a 3.4m wheelbase Cab Chassis or Dual Cab, with a 5.50 tonne GVM with axle loads of 2,450kg on the front axle and 3,700kg on the rear axle.

The Daily 4x4 is ideal for use in applications such as:

  • off road support vehicles
  • emergency services
  • recreational vehicles
  • mining or forestry services
Engine

The Daily 4x4 can deliver abundant power and torque under tough conditions, and is renowned for its particularly wide torque band. Both the Daily 4x4 Cab Chassis and the Dual Cab come equipped with an Iveco FIC 3 litre 4 cylinder, twin turbo diesel engine. This engine delivers 170hp and a massive 400Nm of torque, which is available even at low engine speeds to ensure driving comfort and reduced fuel consumption. The output provides all the necessary power to tow big loads for both work and recreational pursuits.

The Iveco FIC engine utilises Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) in order to meet Euro 5/ADR 80-03 emissions compliance. This offers the added benefit of exceptional fuel efficiency while minimising the environmental impact. The engine is coupled to a smooth changing 6-speed synchromesh overdrive manual transmission, providing exceptional vehicle control no matter what the road conditions.

Transmission

The Daily 4x4 incorporates the convenience and added performance of a permanent four wheel drive system with front, centre and rear differential locks. Torque distribution is optimised (32% to the front and 68% to the rear axle) to give the best possible grip on all types of terrain.

With all differential locks engaged, all wheels, front and rear are locked to the same speed and turn in unison delivering outstanding traction. An electronic control unit linked to electro-hydraulic actuators controls the manual engagement and disengagement of the three diff-locks in sequence, selecting them automatically on the basis of speed to guarantee maximum safety and traction. The vehicle can be equipped with four Power Take-Offs (PTOs) to drive external equipment via hydraulic pumps and cardan shafts making the Daily 4x4 an extremely versatile vehicle.

The 6-speed gearbox (with overdrive in 6th) is coupled to a central transfer box with two reduction stages giving a total of 24 forward speeds, 12 for road/trail use and 12 for off road use (6x2 + 6x2) plus 4 reverse gears. The broad availability of low range ratios allows the Daily 4x4 to safely negotiate the steepest of terrains.

The first synchronised reduction gear can be selected (half speed) with the vehicle in motion. The second reduction stage is dedicated to extreme off road use and can only be engaged with the vehicle stationary.

Cab

The Daily 4x4 travels over the roughest roads but is still smooth and comfortable to drive with a high level of cabin appointments the driver will enjoy both on and off the road. Despite its relatively high stance, the vehicle is designed for easy cab access and maximum protection:

  • durable metal footsteps provide safe and easy access into the cab
  • the fuel tank is protected from harsh road impacts
  • retractable under-run protection bar

Internally there is plenty of space and numerous storage compartments and pockets. The driver’s seat provides three adjustments plus lumbar support. Passengers can enjoy the comfort of individual seats or a practical bench seat with waist belts or three point seat belts. In the Dual Cab model, the rear bench provides up to four seats, complete with seat belts and head rests.

The driver’s seating position is very similar to a car, with the added benefit of superior visibility. The gear lever is positioned on the dashboard, while the range selection levers are located on the cab floor to facilitate easy movement across the cab. The switches for the three differential locks and the PTOs are positioned within reach on the centre console.

Frame and Suspension

Constructed from a solid steel truck chassis, the Daily 4x4's frame is built tough for tough conditions. The beams and cross members are made from high strength tubular steel (Fe490), with a C section of 5mm. The result is a rigid structure capable of withstanding the torsional stress and fatigue typical of extreme off road applications. The 3.4 metre wheelbase gives ample ground clearance to drive with confidence in off road conditions. A strong chassis allows easy fitment of a wide range of body types.

The front axle is fitted with parabolic 3 leaf springs while the rear it is fitted with parabolic 4 leaf springs offering cushioning from the harshest of conditions. The telescopic shock absorbers and anti-roll stabiliser bars, coupled to the rigid axles, offer excellent performance on any type of terrain and gradient without penalising load capacity.
